In life, you are required to throw aside anything that is holding you back and change your direction if the need arises to reach your ultimate goal. A life without goals is meaningless and a life without struggles is not possible if you are ambitious. Many times, childhood events and circumstances shape your goals and aspirations. Such is the epic tale of Kendrick Tilghman, who is widely known as DJ 5 Starr and is a multipotentialite with a mission.
Growing up in Baltimore City
Kendrick Tilghman was born and raised in Baltimore City. According to him,
“Growing up in Baltimore City taught me what loyalty looks like. Sadly it taught me competition breeds negative energy.”
He further shares how he was blessed to live in a two-parent home and a great older sister who had a tremendous influence on him as she grew up in church and was an academic achiever. He learned the significance and the potential in education from his sister. Where his paternal grandfather was a successful entrepreneur, his maternal grandmother told him how she had even washed floors for 5 bucks. These contrasting tales of life, work, and business planted a seed in his brain at the age of 13, that compelled him to own his own company one day.
Journey to success
Kendrick was an avid basketball fan and a great player. The game thrilled him and excited him to the point that at one point in time he wanted to pursue it as a career. However, he soon realized that he felt the same thrill for mathematics. He decided to pursue electrical engineering and also got an MBA degree. Instead of looking for a job, he decided to pursue his entrepreneurship goals and created an organization that originated from his passion for STEM (Science, technology, engineering, and mathematics). He wished to put the WOW in these normally thought to be boring concepts and thus formally founded the B.E.M.O.R.E.S.T.E.A.M initiative which uses DJ skills to teach concepts of STEM.
Currently, owner of 5 Starr Enterprise, Kendrick is a professional DJ who culminates his DJing skills with his business as a mentor, educationist, STEM advocate, and virtual solutions provider.
The company focuses on an extended learning space and arranges edutainment workshops, provides an intro to teachers unit plans, exhibitions for STEM fairs to build interest within the community and so much more. He also provides virtual solutions and attracts audiences for clients through the Media Masters initiative.
Music and Math were the two of his passions which he joined to create his legacy. He is truly an inspiration for all those seeking success in life.
