Pop art has always had a profound impact on the culture, history, and creativity in the world of art overall. It has significantly changed how other artists and connoisseurs perceive artwork altogether, and like everything in this world, pop art has evolved with time.
It has also had a vast geographical reach, influencing artists globally and allowing talents like Melissa Falconer, also known as M.Falconer, to emerge. Melissa’s talent initially started off as a hobby in her university dorm back in 2015, and now she is part of a movement that has redefined art the same way Picasso did with abstractism.
The journey to a new beginning is never easy for anyone, and Melissa’s was no exception. When she wanted to grow her business, she did not have much money, so she applied to local grant programs. Over three years, she was able to raise around $15,000 in funding from government and community organizations.
Mistakes were made along the way; she lost money trying to figure out how to run paid ads as well as releasing apparel that did not sell. However, she never saw these failures as setbacks but as lessons necessary for growth, and that is exactly what kept her growing.
While working part-time as a teenager, Melissa realized that she did not like working for anyone. Hence post-graduation, regular 9-5 jobs were a straight no for her. And to this day, she never has had one. Buying her large format printer to start producing in-house prints in 2020 is also another notable achievement she prides in. Currently, she heads two part-time employees who help her package orders and do other tasks.
Her original paintings now go for over $3,000, and she has worked with several big brands and celebrities throughout her career. Through her work, not only is she earning a handsome amount of money, but she is also spreading the beauty of Black culture through the creative means of pop culture.
