Sharks are essential to keep the balance in the marine ecosystem. This fact has been negated and disregarded for decades resulting in the chaos we observe today. Shark populations have declined by almost 70% over the past 50 years and continue to decline globally. Sharks take almost 150 years to mature and become sexually active resulting in slower reproduction and possible extinction due to overfishing. With the absence of sharks, the marine ecosystem will undoubtedly collapse.
Top deep water diver, influencer, and ocean advocate Jason Borkland has made it his life’s mission to inspire a sense of duty to preserve marine wonders for future generations.
Hailing from Austin, Texas, Jason is a technical diver who is trained for deep water diving operations. His first-hand experience of wonders hidden under the sea has led him to massively respect and value these gigantic water bodies. It has also instilled in him a sense of duty to protect and care for them. He aims to guide others who have not seen the world the way he has. As an active ambassador, he aspires to ingrain that sense in others to promote the cause of marine conservation. Jason has collaborated and joined hands with various scientific communities and non-profit organizations to play a significant role in the research and documentation of the underwater part of our planet.
He also helps by volunteering his expertise at Texas State University’s protected marine area at Spring Lake. His former association with Fins Attached, a Colorado-based nonprofit that focuses on shark research and marine conservation, helped him advance during his cause of marine preservation and education. Taking his passion for the marine environment further, Jason regularly shares content from the deep water realms to educate viewers on life under the sea and why it is absolutely vital for each one of us to make an impact and protect our oceans.
@Jasonborkland uses his public platforms to share the raw photography of marine life, which he has captured himself during his diving expeditions, to foster respect and care for these majestic beings of nature. From sharing his own videos of white sharks, Hammerheads, and dolphins to up close, raw images of endangered leopards and other magnificent creatures of the world, Jason Borkland’s social media page is an absolute treat for wildlife lovers.
An advocate of marine conservation, Jason spreads the message that killing marine life is detrimental to oceanic life and humans. Preservation and conservation are not the new ways to live; they are perhaps the only way to live now.
