Concept designer, illustrator, and NFT artist, Sammy Khalid, grew up in Dublin, Ireland, but was born in Saudi Arabia to a Sudanese father and a Filipino mother. Sammy’s interests and hobbies reach far beyond concept designing and animation. He loves fitness and martial arts. In addition to this, he is also extremely passionate about Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and rock climbing. Moreover, Sammy also likes philosophy, psychology, mythology, history, film, digital media, and storytelling. His desire to learn new things and to constantly challenge himself helps him to do better and excel in his field.
Sammy works in the entertainment industry (specifically film/TV and animation) and designs characters, sets, vehicles, and props. His job as an illustrator allows him to create artwork for brands, games, and publications. Moreover, he is also an NFT artist and creates personal artwork that he sells to collectors through digital ‘galleries’/platforms. He entered the film industry by working in a VFX house as a concept artist/matte painter. Ever since then, Sammy has been working full time as a concept artist and illustrator. In addition to this, he even got the chance to work on some awesome projects such as Black Mirror, Artemis Fowl, and League of Legends for dream clients like Disney, Netflix, and HBO. This job has given him a lot of flexibility to work from anywhere in the world and garner immense success.
According to Sammy, it is his versatility and ability to be a jack of all trades that makes his business different from the rest. It is quite rare to have an artist who does not focus on their niche. However, it is his goal to be a master of many trades. Although it’s a slower journey as an artist and even stylistically, but Sammy is playing the long game. He states that he is already seeing the payoff with client work and is sure that this will continue to evolve in the future. In addition to this, Sammy further states that he is quite nerdy and enjoys working in isolation but is also someone who is very outgoing and loves to socialize when he has the time to do so. His life experiences, high-profile projects, the countries he has been to, the people he has worked with, and the unique perspective his background offers, all contribute to the value he brings to a project. Thus, these things set his business apart from the rest.
