Every individual has a purpose, and while it might feel like our existence and actions don’t matter, they do. Some people know their purpose from the start, and some go through many trials and errors to figure it out. Byron Rodgers, a war veteran, and executive protection agent, is among the former who knew that he wanted to do something meaningful but wasn’t exactly sure what to do. During his time as a USMC infantry serving in Iraq, Rodgers was inspired to find his meaning in life after almost losing it and having an out-of-body experience due to getting blown up by an IED. He got another chance at life and promised not to squander it.

Ever since Rodgers was a little boy, he struggled to fit in, which impacted his sense of self. So after completing high school, he decided to join the military to challenge himself and go on a journey of self-discovery. He joined the Marine Corps for four years, with two deployments to Iraq as a Squad Leader. On an unfortunate day, Rodgers got hit by roughly 62 pounds of explosives in Iraq and had an incredibly close encounter with death, which eventually changed the course of his life.

For a brief moment, Rodgers could see his lifeless body and reflect on how his life had been a waste with no substantial achievements and how he hadn’t made any difference in the world. At that moment, he kept asking God to give him another chance so he could make something of himself and appreciate life in its true essence. The 19-year-old then woke up with a jolt in his chest, having been given another chance to live.

Since that day, Rodgers has made drastic changes in his life and others’ as well. He left the military and stepped into the executive protection industry. In addition, he also found his calling: to become a professional protector and to multiply protectors in the world n order to make the world a safer, better place.

Currently, Rodgers is helping other civilians, veterans, and ex-law enforcement officers become protectors and build successful careers as executive protection agents through his training organization, The League of Executive Protection Specialists. He serves as the chief executive officer at Bravo Research Group, a private security firm serving high-net-worth families and striving to make houses of worship, schools, offices, etc., more secure. He has also founded Protector Nation, an online community for protectors that hosts large-scale training clinics called Protector Symposiums.

In a nutshell, Rodgers’ days in the military reshaped his life. If anything, that experience helped him discover his life mission: to help people learn the art of protection and multiply the number of protectors in the world.
